Vampyr (1932) – Movie 3 in 31 Days of Horror

All atmosphere and moody lighting, Vampyr is a different sort of vampire movie.

Less of the monster-movie vibe of a Universal horror, and with more of an emphasis on the gothic setting and horror.

Also there is a “servant” theme.

I watched Criterion’s restoration of this, which is an “HD digital transfer of the original German-language version of the film from the 1998 restoration by Martin Koerber and the Cineteca di Bologna.” It was, unsurprisingly, gorgeous.

A strange, dreamy movie and I’m glad to have finally seen it!

This is going to stick with me.
